SoyLife isoflavones study

SoyLife is a range of ingredients made from soy germ, which is rich in isoflavones. More than 25 percent of the soy isoflavones are stored in the soy germ. Besides the isoflavones SoyLife also contains other soy compounds (vitamin E, saponins, antioxidants, oligosaccharides, fibre and PUFAs), which enhances the bio-availability of isoflavones.
The health benefits of SoyLife are numerous: SoyLife is important for women’s health (helps to ease menopause symptoms), improves bone health, cognitive function and is good for prostate and hearth.

The health benefits of SoyLife are being investigated by OPUS (Osteoporosis Prevention Using Soy). OPUS is a long-term research study on the use of soy isoflavone supplement to prevent bone loss in postmenopausal women. The main goal of OPUS is to determine whether isoflavones have health promoting effects and that the use of soy isoflavones is safe. OPUS also communicates their findings to healthcare providers and the general public. During a two year study four hundred postmenopausal women will be followed. One third will receive a placebo, one third will receive 80 mg soy isoflavones per day and the remaining one third will receive 120 mg soy isoflavones per day. The OPUS study is funded by a grant from the Cooperative State Research Education and Extension Service (US Department of Agriculture). The industrial partners are Acatris Holding BV (who supplies the isoflavones), EB Healthpharma BV (produces the isoflavones and placebo tablets) , Swanson Health Products (supplies vitamins) and Source Naturals (supplies calcium supplement).

According to OPUS, about 10 million people in the US suffer from osteoporosis, 25 percent of patients with hip fracture end up in nursing homes and 50 percent of women will suffer a fracture related to osteoporosis.
